There are a variety of important factors to look into when you’re setting goals. You will realize later on that in the dream of achieving something, there is a sense of direction involved. It isn’t just about targeting a particular objective and then doing nothing about it. You must do the things essential for the achievement of the goals. But one thing is certain though – that before you can do something about a goal, you must set it first. So here’s a good list of factors to consider in setting goals:
1 – List Them. Are you planning to build a new business this year? Are you looking to apply for a home loan? These are some of the goals you want to achieve for this year. But because there are a lot of those things in your mind, you might end up messing them up and even forgetting them. So the first rule in goal setting is listing them. You wouldn’t want to plan something today and forget it the next day. Listing your goals is in a way structuring your life, or simply putting yourself in the right direction.
2 – Set Priorities. After making the list, set your priorities. Priorities must be based on what is achievable and feasible to attain in a certain time or period. You cannot hope to become a millionaire in two months, right? The important thing here is that you need to be realistic about setting priorities. Don’t conform to other people’s beliefs. Some people might say that your goals are outrageous. Remember, it’s you who is planning everything. Believe in your goals because if you don’t, there’s no point in planning and putting them into action.
3 – Expect the Unexpected, Avoid Predetermined Results. When you set goals, think of the things that you can do in order to achieve it and the factors that may become hindrances along the way. Don’t think ahead and create an image of a road with no obstacles because if you do, you’ll come unprepared with the negative things that are likely to block your way to success and the achievement of your goals.
4 – Dream Big. One of the most important factors in goal setting is dreaming big. How can you possibly get the things you want if you didn’t dream of them? Goal setting is all about what you want to achieve in life and if you lack the motivation and outlook, there’s no sense in setting goals.
Setting up goals is one good idea to start the New Year right. But one problem most people face in goal setting is that they don’t know how to visualize the date and period in achieving the same goals. So the best ways to ensure that goals are within reach and attainable is to set them up on a monthly basis. It means that if you plan to achieve something this year, designate a particular month when you think you can achieve it.
There are certain things to you need to look at when you set your goals on a monthly basis:
1 – Goal must be challenging and must be achievable for a one month period. It’s the start of the New Year and there is so much stuff going on your mind. Sometimes, you feel like you want to achieve everything in a blink of an eye. But that’s natural – borne out of excitement. However, you have to ensure that the goal for the first month of the year is achievable. Do not think of getting rich in an instant when you plan to invest in a business this January. Do not falsely believe you get back your return of investment by the end of the month. The technique is getting a more realistic and decent goal. Remember, goals are achieved when they are possible.
2 – Goal must be time constrained and limited. Another important aspect of setting a goal for this month is making sure you get to achieve it within the time frame. You cannot think of buying a dog this month and realize the plan after five years. That’s simply outrageous and way out of plan. The purpose of a monthly plan and goal setting is that you will be motivated to achieve it because there is a deadline.
3 – Goal must be flexible. Put in mind that not all goals are perfectly achieved each month. The practical means of achieving success is by way of thinking that you don’t have to completely achieve the kind of figures you intended, but at least you fought your way to achieve it. For instance, you might be thinking of earning twenty thousand dollars for your business this month. However, by the end of the same month, you only get fifteen thousand. Instead of regretting, you see it as a sign of success. It’s better than earning zero, right?
4 – Be willing enough to achieve the goals. A lot of people don’t have trouble making goals and planning them ahead. But the problem arises in the method of realizing them. So the best way to ensure that you achieve the goals you made for this month is to have enough will and courage to achieve them. Don’t stick to making goals as goals alone. They should be the seeds of where you’re tree of success will rise.
